The Relationship to Oregon State University

The Oregon State University Foundation is a privately chartered corporation, founded in 1947 with the sole purpose of attracting, processing, investing and disbursing charitable gifts made for the benefit of Oregon State University. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees who have fiduciary and legal responsibility for its operations. The Board of Trustees, which is made up of alumni and friends of the University, assists the Foundation in carrying out its fundraising, gift processing, investment, and disbursement responsibilities. The Foundation raises dollars according to a priority list based on the University's strategic plan.

Alumni Association

The Oregon State University Alumni Association manages an ongoing membership program, inviting alumni and friends to purchase memberships for which specific benefits (use of The Valley Library or Dixon Recreation Center; participation in Alumni Travel Programs; discounts at Corvallis and national merchants; and other benefits) are provided. These memberships are the primary source of funding for Alumni Association activities ranging from the Alumni Scholars Program and the Alumni College conferences and events to tailgater activities at athletic events, and the Student Alumni Association. Memberships are NOT tax deductible under IRS regulations since an exchange for benefits is involved. Oregon State's most loyal alumni and friends are members of the Association and also make tax-deductible gifts to the University through the OSU Foundation. Visit the Alumni Association's website.

Colleges and Programs

Each of the University's colleges and schools, as well as multiple departments, research consortia and centers, and special programs (SMILE, MECOP, etc.) depends on charitable giving to sustain the excellence demanded by alumni, students, parents and faculty. Gifts to any OSU program can be made through the OSU Foundation simply by indicating on the gift check or with an accompanying document information directing the particular gift to whatever college or program is of interest to the donor.

Information on current program priorities and activities is available on the individual Web sites for each college and program.
