The OSU Monthly Campaign Update tracks progress toward our $625 million campaign goal, celebrates successes along the way, and, above all, showcases the impact philanthropy makes on OSU students, the state of Oregon, and our world.

Monthly Highlights

We rang in the new year celebrating the steadfast support of the Oregon State University family.
The campaign total increased by $11 million during December, bringing us to $557 million by the end of 2009.

Besides passing the $550 million mark, the campaign reached several other milestones:

• The College of Health and Human Sciences became the sixth college or unit to surpass its campaign goal, joining Central Initiatives plus the colleges of Agricultural Sciences, Education/4-H, Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine in this tremendous achievement. (Learn about one wonderful HHS campaign gift under "For the World" below.)

Athletics crossed the $100 million mark on the way to its $129.5 million goal. The number of donors to the Beaver Athletic Student Fund is up by 340 over this time last year, showing good progress toward the goal of expanding the BASF donor base to 12,000 by 2012.

• Donors have now committed well over 2,000 major gifts ($25,000+) to the campaign, including six $1 million+ gifts and 48 $100,000+ gifts this fiscal year alone.

This encouraging campaign progress opens the door for some exciting possibilities, says Shawn L. Scoville, Senior Vice President of Development & Campaign Director. He notes that at their Dec. 10 meeting Campaign Steering Committee members discussed the possibility of extending the campaign and increasing its goal.

"The committee is excited about the university's updated strategic plan and the opportunities the campaign presents to continue to advance OSU's goals," Scoville says. "In late January Foundation staff will meet with our campaign counsel, Martin Grenzebach of Grenzebach Glier and Associates, to develop recommendations for the next phase of the campaign, which we'll take back to the Campaign Steering Committee and university leadership at the committee's next meeting in March."
