The OSU Monthly Campaign Update tracks progress toward our $625 million campaign goal, celebrates successes along the way, and, above all, showcases the impact philanthropy makes on OSU students, the state of Oregon, and our world.
As of Feb. 28, The Campaign for OSU reached $564.8 million — 90 percent of its $625 million goal — with 16 months remaining in the campaign's original timeframe.
Encouraged by this great momentum and eager to keep a good thing going, the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees endorsed a plan at its Feb. 28-March 1 meeting to extend the campaign past its original June 2011 end date. Staff will work with university leaders over the next few months to revise campaign goals, keeping in mind each unit's past performance, demonstrated potential, and donor base, as well as the proposed projects' alignment with the university's strategic plan. Stay tuned for more information about the revised timeline and increased goals.
As noted in the October 2009 update, leadership gifts make the difference between meeting and exceeding campaign goals. After a relatively challenging period for making major financial commitments, OSU donors are now considering more major gift proposals than they have since March 2008, including 25 proposals of $1 million or more.
Another factor supporting the plan to extend the campaign is its remarkably broad base of support. More than 51,000 households have contributed to date. "This is our first campaign, so we are just getting to know many people who love OSU and want to see it realize its amazing potential," says Shawn L. Scoville, Senior Vice President of Development & Campaign Director. "Continuing the campaign will allow us to build on our success and help OSU achieve even more of its aspirations."
OSU's broad base of support means that many gifts are adding up to make a big impact. This month's update features three areas showing how a culture of philanthropy is growing:
