The Provost's Faculty Match Program: Phase Two

Building on the overwhelming success of the Provost’s Faculty Match Program, a second phase is now underway and will run through Dec. 31, 2012.
The Provost’s Faculty Match Program provides a financial incentive to donors to create faculty endowments that support the priorities identified in the university's strategic plan. Funded by the OSU Provost's Office for $2.5 million over five years, the program has the potential to leverage more than $10 million in private support for OSU faculty.
"The Provost's Faculty Match program and the donors who participate in it are helping us build a faculty that will advance the university's areas of distinction, provide high quality education to a growing and diverse student body, and enable us to make progress toward our vision of becoming a top-10 Land Grant university," said provost and executive vice president Sabah Randhawa.
Through the program’s first phase, donors established or expanded 22 endowed faculty position funds with commitments totaling more than $21 million.

About the Provost's Faculty Match Program:
- To be eligible for the match, the gift must support an endowed faculty position that advances one of OSU's three signature areas of excellence as described in its strategic plan. The provost will review endowed positions proposed for matching funds to ensure alignment with the strategic plan.
- Commitments to support existing endowed positions as well as those to create new ones are eligible for the Provost's Match. (University policy applies regarding minimum funding levels to endow new positions, and faculty may not be appointed to a named endowed position until the minimum endowed funds are fully realized.)
- The availability of matching funds will be allotted evenly among OSU's four academic divisions (Arts and Sciences, Earth Systems Science, Health Sciences, Business and Engineering) for the first six months of the program. After that period it will become available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- With the possible exception of term or lead trusts, planned gifts are not eligible for the Provost’s Match. Likewise, realized bequests and bequest expectancies are not eligible.
- In phase two of the Provost's Faculty Match Program, up to five donors (five gifts) may be pooled to create/support an endowed fund position. However, university minimum funding levels must be completed, prior to receiving any commitment in matching dollars from the Provost.
- The annual matching funds may be used at the dean’s/director’s discretion to advance OSU’s strategic priorities and need not necessarily be tied to the specific endowed position.
