After earning a degree in Wildlife Sciences at OSU, Olive Kendrick Britt, '40, went on to a pioneering career in equine veterinary medicine that spanned more than 60 years.
She passed away in 2006 but Dr. Britt will always be remembered for the legendary foal who was born on her watch at the Meadow Farm in Doswell, Va. — a bright red chestnut colt later named Secretariat.
Through a provision in her will, Dr. Britt created an endowment in OSU's College of Veterinary Medicine to provide clinical care for referred shelter animals or animals whose owners can't afford to pay for necessary procedures. Her legacy of compassionate care lives on at her alma mater.
