The Glenn and Mildred Harvey Professorship

In 1987, Glenn and Mildred Harvey, both Oregon State University graduates, made a gift of their 97,000-acre southeastern Oregon ranch to OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences. At the time, the ranch, which had been in the Harvey family for 125 years, was valued at close to $1 million. Today, the property in Paisley continues to function as both a working ranch and a teaching and research laboratory, where OSU students and faculty study rangeland and watershed management.

In 1994, the Harveys deepened their commitment to OSU even further by establishing a trust with the E. R. Jackman Foundation, an affiliate of the OSU Foundation. Upon the passing of the final beneficiary, the trust will fund a number of programs at Oregon State and the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences, including the Glenn and Mildred Harvey Professorship in the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences. The professorship will enhance the relationship between OSU and Oregon’s beef cattle industry by recruiting or retaining a faculty member with nationally recognized contributions to the field of animal sciences, and by funding research, teaching, and Extension programs related to the beef cattle industry. In 2011 Glenn passed away, followed by Mildred in 2013.
