OSU Alumni Association Honors Moore Brothers

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon State University Alumni Association has chosen Don Moore of Forest Grove and Rod Moore of Portland to receive the Dan Poling Service Award. The brothers will be honored at the annual Destination OSU awards banquet in Rancho Mirage, Calif., on Tuesday, March 3.

Named for an influential dean of men who served OSU for more than five decades, the Dan Poling Service Award recognizes those who have volunteered a significant amount of time to OSU, carrying on Poling's legacy of dedication to the university.

The Moore brothers have together given more than 60 years of service to OSU. Both are former OSU Foundation Trustees and Dad's Club presidents, in addition to other volunteer roles on campus. Don Moore graduated from OSU in 1947 with a degree in agricultural and resource economics; Rod Moore earned his degree in food science six years later.

"Don and Rod model selfless dedication to OSU," said Jeff Todd, executive director of the OSU Alumni Association. "Each in his own way, they are wonderful ambassadors for the university — always eager to learn more about the great things happening at OSU and to invite others to participate in our mission."

In the 1980s Don Moore, the retired owner of Moore Leasing, successfully chaired OSU's $13 million FourSight! effort, the university's first sustained major gift initiative and an early precursor to today's $625 million Campaign for OSU. He also chaired the Presidents Club Leadership Council and served on the OSU Annual Giving advisory committee.

He and his wife, Jane, have four adult children: Jonathan Moore, Bob W. Moore '72, Elizabeth Linehan '75 and D. William Moore.

Rod Moore was president and partner of Portland brokerage firm Adams Hess Moore & Co. until its acquisition by Umpqua Holdings Corp. in 2000. He then served as a director of the merged company, Strand Atkinson Williams & York, and later worked for Wedbush Morgan Securities. His extensive involvement with education includes serving on the Beaverton school board for 10 years. At OSU he chaired the Council of Regents Advisory Committee and OSU Foundation Life Income Agreement Investment Subcommittee.

He and his wife, Jean, have three adult children: Greg Moore '78, Jim Moore '81 and Laurie Wagner.
